The North Texas Group gets ready
to Hide tokens on Friday. 9Key and Akulakat go over some
specifics while SandBassQueen and Lucky organize the token
distribution. Others in the picture include Hack Attack, Stupid,
Astrojr1, G-O-GardenerGal |
|
 |
The SE400D cache was the first cache
hidden by the group. Akulakat
and Astrojr1 'worked over' this
tree after SandBassQueen scooped
up Spanish moss off the ground.
It may be noted that 2 seperate SETX groups were trying to find
this cache as all members of our group walked by twice towards the
end of the hunt. Nobody ever did find it and we retrieved it
for a souvenir later.
This 400 points would have won the competition for SETX. |
|
 |
Akulakat,
SandBassKing, and
Astrojr1 stand as statues around
SE400D cache. They wait 3 minutes using WAAS averaging and
then get the best coordinate available. |
 |
I have never seen Spanish Moss grow in a pine
tree until this. We felt this one would be easy pickings as it
was only 15 feet (above picture) from a trail. |
|
 |
SandBassKing
stands knee deep in a swamp while he obtains coordinates for the
SE200H cache. This was the easiest to find of our groups'
caches, though not fun to retrieve. |
 |
Sometimes, caches get stuck up in trees by
sometimes Monkeys like Astrojr1
here. |
|
 |
Astrojr1 is
mighty powerful and can wear this tree on his head. Notice the poise
and balance that it takes to keep the tree from tipping. |
|
 |
Akulakat lacks
the superior strength of Astrojr1, so he levitates the tree using
mind powers |
|
 |
Sometimes Decoys are good to throw the
opponent off track. Here Astrojr1
aims at the decoy spot as Akulakat
shines the laser on the target. G-O-GardenerGal
shoots her man. |
|
 |
Top Form honors go to
SandBassKing as he unleashes the
javelin for the same target. You may see him in the next
Olympics! |
|
 |
All that throwing and the cache was cleverly
concealed in the forest floor. It was actually visible barely
from 2 different spots. This one was either 300 or 400 points.
Don't remember. |
|
 |
Crummy old bridges make good hiding spots as
well. |
 |
The night Before the Challenge, North
Texas Team Members meet at Hedge Hoppers Central Command Quarters to
discuss Geocaching strategies. |
|
 |
Discussing strategies (really just yapping
about different stuff) is what makes the event lots of fun!!! |
|
 |
Astrojr1
demonstrates to Grimlock how
bartending should be done. It was
Grimlock who noted that the GPS coordinates for DFW were
not working properly in the SportTrak and ETrex GPS units as the
number of characters was too long. |

Getting Ready for the word 'GO' |
