The Akula is a class of Russian nuclear powered submarine.  I first became closely acquainted with the Akula in the mid 1980's while serving onboard the USS Wm. H. Bates SSN 680.   The Bates was a fast attack nuclear powered submarine which has now been decommissioned.  References to the Akula became public after the publishing of Tom Clancy's book The Hunt for Red October.

So then,  Why Akulakat?

In 1990,  my wife and I got ourselves a cat.  This cat was a Russian Blue (picture).   We had at first named him wimpy for he was the runt of the litter.  But he had mighty sharp teeth...much like a shark.  Akula,  by the way is Russian for SHARK.  Being not so long out of the Navy,  we promptly changed his name to Akula.   Akulakat comes from his name, Akula, and he being a cat.  But Akulacat looks stupid,  thus Akulakat.
