60 Day Update

Chuck-It's hard to believe it has been 60 days. Time does fly when you're having fun.

I'm still at Network Associates providing first line technical support of their Management Edition anti-virus software program. At first I was starting to think that I would end up as a one trick pony but my mind has been changed. I'm finding that I not only have to troubleshoot the company product but also NT. I'm becoming particularly adept at permissions and trust relationships.

The work environment is great. Dress code is..Whatever. Unless you have a question, management pretty much leaves you alone. I'm able to put in some
time learning W2K and even have a test machine and a test network to "play" with. If you need hardware, ask and you probably will receive. I've been able to consistently work overtime to provide the little goodies I want to become accustomed to. So all in all, it's a nice place.

I have observed one interesting fact. The average network administrator has a level of knowledge far below what we had after our first NT class. At some
point I want to make the transition to network admin and the field is wide open.

Glad to hear that Suzanne has finally made it.

Mike-60 Days, big changes

I had a little more uptight dress code than Chuck. I had to wear ties. But only Monday - Thursday.

I am through with the Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau after the 25th of this month. I put my notice in after a fairly long courtship from Dalmac Companies (Where Carolyn works). On several occasions, Carolyn tried to get me to talk with her boss at Dalmac, and I kept refusing because I liked it at the Bureau. Finally she called one day when I felt that a change wouldn't be all too bad. I agreed to call him, and after two grueling interviews, He offered me the position and I accepted. I will start on the 27th of March as a Field Technology Specialist supporting the companies' construction sites across the metroplex as well as a few in Houston/Austin. A more casual dress code for sure. I also won't have to share an office with a bunch of servers and a boss.

As I already forwarded to you, my position is currently open at the Convention & Visitors Bureau. I am presuming Lee Boquet will get that position if he wants it, but that will leave his position available. Either way, there is at least one position open downtown. Contact Lee if you want to find out what he is planning to do and to find out more about his job. lboquet@dallascvb.com is his work email.

I am excited about people finding jobs. I haven't really heard anything from Steve TenBarge, Steve Waco, Ken, Grant, or Vince. Get in touch guys !!!!

Joe- I hope this will suffice.

This is my 3rd day at the FAA. I totally enjoy it. The dress is casual...no TIES...and button down shirts and slacks in the classroom, but if developing...be sure you are dressed! It is very relaxed here. I report only to the person teaching the class. No bosses to think of here. I will be a Teaching Assistant for the first month here but then I will be expected to teach my own class after that. I am excited about it.
The curriculum is more of a basic overview than an MCSE-level course. I will be teaching NT, Routers (yikes) and TCP/IP. Gonna be rough but I can handle it. I will let you know further on the 90 day update how I like teaching. I am excited for you making the transition from the Bureau to the new job. I wish the best for you. Chuck, I know you will succeed in whatever you attack. Suzanne, CONGRATS!!! Bout time. LOL Just Kidding. God Bless you all and have fun in your new careers.
